Last day of school!

I can not believe that this school year is over. It flew by and now I officially have a 5th grader and a 2nd grader. Wow- that sounds crazy!!
Here is a comparison form the first day of school and this morning before they left for their last day.

They each got some awards this week. Cooper got an award for being his classes' Marvelous Mathematician. He loves Math and does so well in it. He also got one for Good Attendance--missing 3 or less days for the year. 1st grade actually has a ceremony they invite family to. It was so great to have Mammy, Omi and Opi there to watch Cooper get his awards. So proud of my Coops! He had a great 1st grade year!!

Coops and Mrs. Martin

Cooper and his buddy Collin

The 4th grade had a ceremony for just the students and teachers(otherwise the grandparents would have been there too). Colton got an award for AB Honor Roll for the year(he was a little disappointed because he had all A's and just 1 B for the year, he wanted All A's) and a Good Attendance award.  The other award he got was so awesome! He received the Integrity Character award. It is the only award that they just give one child per class for the whole year. So proud of my Colty! As a side note, he also did awesome on all three of his STAAR tests!!

Some 4th grade buddies at their end of the year party yesterday
They each had such a great year. They had awesome teachers, worked so hard, had so much fun and learned a lot!
We are sooooo ready for summer!!!!!

My hubby got elected!

At the suggestion of a few friends, Cody decided to run for a position on our school board. It was a busy few months where my hubby had to do a little campaigning and attend a few debates. He made me so proud! So relaxed under pressure and so smart! I have to share the speech he opened with at the debates...

I am excited about the opportunity to run and the potential to serve on the Comal ISD school board for this area.  I was fortunate enough to grow up in this area and to have lived here most of my life.  I grew up attending Bracken United Methodist Church, went to Comal Elementary School, Canyon Middle School and Canyon High School.  I then went off to College at Tarleton State University where I received my Bachelors and Masters Degree of Science.
Upon graduation, I was lucky enough to marry my High school sweetheart Melanie.  This summer we will be married 14 years.  We were both able secure jobs back in this area and moved back.  I began working for HEB and Melanie began her career as a teacher in the NEISD.  I worked for HEB for just short of 11 years and then got the opportunity to transition to the vendor side of the retail business and began working for J Bar B about 2 years ago.
Melanie and I have 3 Boys, Colton, Cooper and Carter 10, 7 and 3 years old.  We are all active members and enjoy attending Oakwood Baptist church in New Braunfels.  We are a family deeply rooted in our faith and our belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I became motivated to run for this seat once I learned of Bill Swint’s decision to not seek re-election.  Bill has done a great job throughout his years of service and I really wanted to be sure that the positive direction he has directed continues.  In addition, I and my family are committed to Public education.  My mother retired from teaching with 20 years of service, Melanie was a teacher until she began staying home with our boys and all our boys will attend public schools.  The success of Comal ISD is extremely important to us and the future of our children.
If I am lucky enough to get elected my main objectives would be to: Improve academics, Build on the strong financial base, manage growth within the district and ensure our schools are safe.  Lastly, this area is in need of a Middle School and High School.  The sooner all of us can quit travelling I-35 back and forth from New Braunfels, the safer and better off we will all be.

In Summary, I have deep roots in this area, I have strong conservative values, I care about the education of our children in public schools, I have the ability to critically think and make decisions and I look forward to serving the folks of this community.

Have to tell you that afterwards quite a few people came up to him praising him for mentioning his faith. They said they were very surprised but so pleased to hear him say that. We heard about 6 other people speak and not one mentioned their faith. I love him for being who he is!!
Anyway, HE WON!!!! We have some great friends and family that came over to hang out and wait for the phone call to let us know if he won or not. We were all so excited to get that call and it turned out to be such a fun evening!
Colton was our photographer=)

Now the hard work for him begins. It is such an important job that he takes seriously. We are lucky to have him representing us.
Here are some pictures from his swearing in.

So super proud of my hubby!!!

Carter's fun day

Carter's last day of school was yesterday. It is known as Fun Day. It lives up to it's name with clowns, balloon animals, bouncy houses, snow cones, spray on tattoos, pony rides(which Carter passed on), gymnastics and a picnic. He had a great morning. Love these days with my baby!

Colton's Alamo Field Trip

Tuesday was Colton's 4th grade field trip to the Alamo. It was a packed and fun day. We started by watching the Alamo movie at the IMAX theater in River Center mall.

Then we hopped on a boat for a little cruise on the San Antonio river.

Colton and Brayden
Our boat driver saved this baby duck. It was stuck and alone so he rescued it. The kids all got to hold it. Colton loved it.

After eating a picnic lunch, we  toured the Alamo. It is not as big as we all imagine, but it is very cool. Unfortunately, no pictures allowed inside. =(

Austin, Colton and Brayden
Such good, fun boys!

Then it was back to the bus and back to school.

Something that made it even better--one of my oldest and dearest friends, Misti was my fellow group leader. Her son Brayden is in Colton's class and we able to be together. I have been friends with Misti since we were freshmen in high school. Our boys have known each other their whole lives. Now they are best friends too. So awesome!!! Misti and I had a great time!!! =)

It was a great day with my biggest boy!!
